maybe this has been brought up before...but it only just occured to me yesterday...

Anakin's attraction to yellow Vehicles...

Episode I - Pod Racer - Colour: Yellow
Episode I - Naboo Star Fighter - Colour: Yellow
Episode II - Corucsant Speeder - Colour: Yellow
Episode III - Jedi Star Fighter - Colour: Yellow

(even the droid he makes becomes yellow - well gold....)

is there any significance in this...is this the light turning to dark...

Episodes IV-VI - all ships he uses, from the Death Star to the Ties are Black...is it that simple...??

any ideas...?

(disussed elsewhere...point me - thanks. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif)

i know GL likes continuity...and this is the most likely explanation...or did they have a large pantone colour left over at ILM????

My friend, you are either very observant or have too much time on your hands. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
Anyway, that does provide a good comparison between the light and the dark side.
Did you notice that anakin's hair was blonde too? Then shortly after becoming a Sith, he gets a nice black helmet.

well i'm surprised its not been brought up before...its quite deliberate obviously...

and its only kinda explained when Anakin says to Obi Wan, i couldn't find a speedder i liked, in Episode II...he was obvioulsy looking for a specific coloured one

also i forgot to mention in my Yellow observations...Anakin's evil eyes...in Episode III - colour: YELLOW

As I recall, his pod ws silver with blue striping, not yellow.

ALL the naboo fighters were yellow, this wasn't Anakin's choice.

The speeder he used in AOTC was not his personal property, but one he borrowed.

well his pod had vivid yellow colourings too...which has already been mentioned

i know all the Naboo fighters were yellow, but its another shot of him in a yellow vehicle, i mean, the colour choice of the Jedi Starfighter, in ROTS, ultimately wouldn't have been his, but i think GL was making some kind of statement by putting Anakin in Yellow, and he did take time to choose the speeder in AOTC, even if it wasn't his own, he picked the yellow one...and did say that he 'couldn't find one he liked to Obi Wan, so i read that as specifically choosing the yellow one...

if you just look at the facts all the vehicles you see anakin flying in all the movies are yellow in colour...i see it as a theme thats all....

Marko Ragnos
12-07-2005, 11:25 AM
Well, in the ROTS visual dictionary it says "Anakin's jedi starfighter was painted yellow as a tribute of his racer pod on Tatooine, or it can be beacuse of he wants attention in combat"

I could see that, but then why did Obi-Wan have two different colored fighters? The first one that got destroyed rescuing Palpatine was red. Then the one he flew to Utapau was blue.

The Millenium Falcon was a hand me down mercenary ship.

The starfighters were military vessels in the midst of a war. I doubt very much that the coloring had no significance.

By the time of ROTS the colours indicated what squadron, general, fleet etc that they belong to. All of Kenobi's clone troopers had yellow markings, while the 501st Legion all had blue markings. The Jedi Interceptor was actually not only reserved to Jedi, it was a standard issue fighter for Venator Class Star Destroyers.

Kapit

^the clones, yes, but i dont think it applies to the jedi fighters

in the clone wars cartoon, we see mace has a purple fighter and eeth koth (i believe) has a green one....IMO, the color really is nothing more than a way to distinguish who's who

and IIRC, SW insider quoted either lucas or rob coleman as saying that anakin's fighter was yellow and grey as a throw-back to the naboo n-1 fighter, plain and simple

exactly - my entire point was that all of anakin's vehicles were the colour yellow, it just seemed a link - i was trying to ascertain why

i assume come Episode III it was a deliberate thing done by GL or RM...maybe not - it does seem a little coincidental thats all...

it may be nothing, at least its creating discussion on the subject...

thepepgal
12-16-2005, 08:11 AM
Very simple: Yellow is for bright and light. Black is for dark and evil.

The shining light of the Jedi fails and becomes the dark Sith. It's also why Anakin's clothing got darker through each prequel films ending with the Vader suit.

This thread made me think a little, (maybe this should be in toy section) but I bought Anakins Jedi Starfighter and its green with no yellow, without looking does he swap starfighters over at some point in the film? If not why have Hasbro created this model.

well at the risk of being a killjoy, I think the reason for all the yellow is simply because it contrasts well with the bluescreens they used during shooting  Yellow is on the opposite end of the colour spectrum so easy to work with during the digital design phase of production.

i agree about the green / blue screen, but i was just saying i think its more subtle than co-incidence, and that really you're idea doesn't stand up because of the fact that not all ships are the same colour...

bluemilk
05-08-2006, 07:33 PM
no I won't stop being sensitive because I think a lot how people treat each other here has to do with insensitivity. :)

And I do think I have an excellent point from an artist's POV. Yellow is a primary colour and works well in the design process and also stands out enough against a lot of the dark blues and/or muted backgrounds used in the movies. I think the use of certain colours is deliberate and seeing yellow on certain items in the movie helps with continuity. All colours can be used but contrasting colours works best and yes, they are easier to work with in the production process.

If anyone can find information about the symbolism of colour use in the SW movies I would LOVE to read it. I'm sure it would be fascinating.
