Do you believe in ghosts? :vader:
I personally don't really know if there are such things as ghosts but the thought of ghosts lurking around the world scares me that i'm afraid of the dark now. i will never go somewhere outside at night without someone with me

I truly do believe in ghosts...If you had seen some of the things I have...you would have had nightmares yourself.

I don't I think that it is silly superstition that ppl allow themselves to believe and thus be frightened by it.

I do. I've had some spooky things happen to me, and I've seen too many documentaries and such that are just very convincing. Look for a documentary called AN UNKNOWN ENCOUNTER: THE SAN PEDRO HAUNTING, and you will be convinced. It's a very intriguing documentary about a woman who was tormented by a ghost in her house.

I believe that ghosts exist. Whether they are something to be feared or not is another thing altogether. Some ghosts are malevolent, some aren't. In either case, they most likely need guidance for their spirits to head to their final destination; be it Heaven or Hell.

Bump.
Didn't we have a new poll that asked this? I can't find one.
Who here these days believes?
And why would anyone be afraid of them? They can't hurt you.

Zach asked about strange things that have happened to people - maybe you're thinking of that thread?
I don't believe. I know - depending on the definition of "ghost" that is. :)

They can't hurt you.
There's a good couple of dozen folks who went on a ghost tour I've worked on who might just disagree with that.
Cuts, bruises and plain old fashioned KO's.

Seriously? Where did you work that ghosts beat people up?
IMO, living people are the ones we must be afraid of. Just check the news, people are doing terrible things to each other.

I used to occasionally work as a jumper on a ghost tour in Edinburgh, in Greyrfriars Kirkyard, where a poltergeist is supposed to haunt a tomb known as the Black Mausoleum. The tomb is located in an area of the kirkyard called the Covenanters Prison, where thousands of people were locked up, in the open air, with no food or water, for standing against the Religious dictum of Scotland at the time (about the 17th Century). A lot of people died in there, very slowly. Some of them were shot at casually by guards. Backing on to the prison is the tomb of a George "Bloody" Mackenzie, a judge who sent many people to their deaths in the prison. It's supposed to be one of the most documented cases of poltergeist activity in the world, so I'm told.
A pal of mine was one of the tour guides and roped me in to jump into the Black Mausoleum and frighten the tourists at the end of the tour - they're usually so wound up that it's a release for them ("Here, want a quick tenner? Shove this mask on yer gob and jump into the tomb when I give a secret signal" he said - I got chased out once by a couple of mad Glaswegian women). But the jumper was also there to help if anyone passed out, which they sometimes did, but not alway from fear. Some folks suffered mildly from headaches and dizziness. Some people would hear laughing or growling (which my wife and I did once) from odd corners of the tomb and some would also feel as though something was brushing against them in the dark. These folks would sometimes find cuts, welts or bruises on those areas sometime later.
One of these incidences was written about in the Edinburgh Evening News, our local paper, by a journalist who had experienced a slight sensation around her neck on the tour. The next day, there were bruises around her neck, similar to those one would find on a strangled person. She was alright but it was creepy to read about - they also published pictures of her neck.

Aha, a prison, I can see that. Evil lurks in evil places. I have never encountered random evil walking down the street or in cemeteries.
How big is Black Mausoleum that it has tours? Where people killed there, or just entombed?

I don't believe in ghosts, but something I can't explain. I've had some very weird experiences that I won't post for afraid of being made fun of and stuff, so if curious pm me.
Just a few experiences that had me scared to where I didn't want to sleep at night.

It's about 15 feet square, I think. It's the burial place of some woman - don't really know. Everyone is just conviced that Bloody Mackenzie's in there. The Covenanter's Prison is locked up now as some people were attacked in there by something they couldn't see during the day. It's in the heart of the Old Town and so is a haven for tourists. And winos. And junkies. And Emos (I refuse to call them Goths. My wife was a Goth. These kid are just dull). And naughty teenagers who really shouldn't break into tombs, remove the skull of a notorious 17th Century judge and proceed to do something unspeakable with it's eye sockets. Silly bugger.
Blizzard

Ewwwwwww! (To the skull removal, not the Emos.)
My mom will be buried in a mausoleum some day. She already has hers paid for and watched them build it, so it's not haunted yet. ;)
I was listening to a Medium on the radio this morning and she described the spirits and ghosts EXACTLY like I see them. I would never call myself a Medium, though. I spend a great amount of time blocking them out.

My co-workers are not animate enough to be dead. :D

Yes, there are many people who follow me around, but I have no clue who they are, but I once I let them know that I know they are there we both go about our business.
I have seen people I know after they died. They always come to say good-bye to my son, but they never stick around.

Well, I haven't seen a ghost, yet. Frankly speaking, I'm not looking forward to seeing one either.

Having no religious or spiritual beliefs, I do not believe in ghosts nor have seen any credible evidence that they exist. I believe that once people die, they rot. That's all. Unless they're embalmed. But what I mean is that once they die, their spirit is gone. GONE.
^That was too pessimistic for a sunny friday morning.

It just means you can't see them.
I have religious beliefs and I don't see them. So this means you are right Blizzee, it has nothing to do with religion.

*Tells Sarah-Leia to sit next to him whilst watching an opera.* Think back to your earliest teachings.......physics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, merely transferred into another form. Now I'm not saying I believe in ghosts, nor am I saying I don't believe in ghosts. But the point remains, when someone dies what happens to the energy that is their spirit - what does it transform into? Well, the answer is............we just don't know.

Alright, so I meant that
a) I can't see ghosts (which is not the question of this thread)
b) I don't believe in people coming back after death
c) I don't believe in heaven or hell where ghosts live.
Oh god, prison siren is going off!

I don't believe in ghosts. If I actually saw one that wasn't on a random site on the web or on silly programs like 'Most Haunted' it could possibly change my mind.

ever see a show called "ghost hunters"? i dont know if its on in other countries, but its worth checking into, just cause i know how you feel about the silly shows. these people actually go into a place trying to debunk the haunting, which makes the findings more valid, and actually call places *gasp* not haunted! which also makes them more valid.

This just happened 2 minutes ago, seriously. Ther I was on my computer typing away at the GS when all of a sudden I hear Darth Vaders breathing... and then Chewbacca roars. And I'm like ...wtf? turns out it was the sound recording on my transformer millenium falcon had gotten activated somehow. It's just sitting there on the shelf nothing else is touching it.
