This show is the coolest television show of all time. It rules. If you haven't seen it, then...I don't know, you're missing out.

If you don't like it you can say so and why, as long as it's intelligent and thought out. If you bash it like a teenager I will destroy you. And your post.

Cool show! So, what do you think Palmer's ex-wife's angle is? Surely she's not in on the bomb threat in LA. She's not that devious is she?

I was itching to start a thread on this show for discussion after each week's episode, but stayed away... thanks Justin for starting one!

This show is absolutely the best hour of television. It is so well-written, acted, and directed I can't even gush over it enough.

And once again... I've said it before I'll say it again... even when no one believed me:

PALMERS WIFE IS..... EVIL!

She is a fantastic actress in my opinion... she's one of the best characters because I just love to hate her. So dripping with insincerity and untrust....

I LOVE THIS SHOW!

Ok so I was right about Palmer's wife being a "double agent", if you will, and plotting against him (although that was a no-brainer) and I was also right about the dumb blonde, "I wouldn't hurt a fly", daughter being the conspirator in the Warner family.

So I'm 2 for 2 there.

Which just keeps the streak going for me because I figured out 99% of the plot twists last season as well.

You are all right though..........this is a great TV show.

I know that's right! I was so glad they didn't spend too much time with her story. Right now, I see the writers starting to merge the stories (Kim's and Jack's) together. Jack now knows that she is not at her aunts house where he instructed her to go.

Marie's treachery goes deeper than we all may know. She gave that guy "special attention" (for those that have seen Bernie Mack on Kings of Comedy, you know what I'm talking about) just to get the trigger out of the Marko's locker at his job. What a friggin' hoe!

Oh, and what happened to the lone guy that was transporting the bomb? Said mentioned him, but where is he?

Whitesaber
02-06-2003, 04:34 PM
I predicted last week that Kate and Jack are going to fall in love. I stand by my prediction.

I agree with both Justin and Kopernikuz. Kim is hot, yet I want her dead. She's just plain too stupid.

And as for Marie... DEATH! DEATH! DIE DIE DIE!! And that goes for Palmer's wife too.

Justin
02-06-2003, 04:50 PM
Wow, I can't believe you guys hate Kim so much. I like her, and I was enjoying her subplot.

Now about Marie getting the key to the locker...am I the ony one who thought she was just tricking the guy to go into the room so she could shoot him and take the key?

I was shocked to see the guy alive at the end of the episode. I guess she gave him the popsicle treatment instead.

kopernikuz
02-06-2003, 04:51 PM
Yeah, I knew as soon as her character was introduced that there was the "love interest" for this season. Ick. Get back to the suspense style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif... But really if Jack ends up caring for her, it'll make her peril that much more intense for his character... so it's a decent story motivator.

Well, I'm just going by what the "Next week on 24..." previews eluded to. Kim and that lumberjack were saying that the bomb went off. It could be like Sum of All Fears where the bomb goes off in the middle of the movie. The the rest of the season could deal with the fall-out.

Just speculation. Actually, that would suck. I hope the bomb doesn't go off, but it seems like they want us to think that.

the phantom menace isn't brilliant, but i feel that it's vastly superior to 24. the phantom menace is a kid's movie, it's star wars and is expected to be cheesy. but 24 is cheesy without precedent. it just takes itself so seriously to the point of being silly and melodramatic. i must admit i haven't watched more than five minutes of the show, but it's just that unbearable.

perhaps I missed something, but why are you comparing a movie to a T.V. show? first off, more money is spent on films than T.V. shows. so the latter will look better. second, the story is what matters, and Phantom sucked in script. 24 won a friggin emmy for writing!

Agree with your first comment, I do, but firmly disagree with your second, I do as well. If you call edge-of-your-seat suspense and drama "cheesy," then I really don't have anything to say that can convice you of 24's utter awesomeness. We just have to agree to disagree.

NO SPOILERS ALLOWED!!!

Speculation is ok, but no giving away plot twists!

That said, I figured George would probably get on the plane, but I thought he was going to push Jack out before (or shortly after) the plane took off.

The scenes with George convincing Jack to let him fly the plane, and them saying goodbye, were great. And my eyes got a little watery when Jack was on the phone with Kim. The writing and acting on this show is really well done.

I do... I'm not saying the guy deserves the death penalty or something... but paying is a little late after he nearly strangled a man to death and smashed through his window. He needs some help... but he certainly doesn't need to be patted on the back and told "All is forgiven".

He said it was an accident that he shot the man... and it was, sort of... but if Kim hadn't stepped in when she did... that man would be dead... he was going to strangle him to death. And then what... pay? Whoopee... got my 28.75 for the bread and supplies he bought... but I'm ding-dong-diddly-dead... as Ned Flanders would say.

I sympathize with a lot of criminals based on their circumstances, but it never ever excuses the crime. Even a man who attacked his daughter's rapist would still be arrested for the crime... I'd argue he had a damn good reason for it... but it's a crime, man.

He committed a crime... the judge may go easy on him... but he will have to be tried. It's the law.

If I know this show... the dude will probably freak again and get himself killed anyway. It'll be tragic, no doubt.

Indeed! Who was the dude Michelle was talking to on the telephone? I seem to remember him from another episode. Why was Carrie being such a shady *****? She's clearly manipulating Tony and the entire situation! I hope Michelle isn't a double agent like Nina Myers. I hope Carrie dies a horrible death...right next to Kim. (just kidding)

Who the hell were those guys shooting at Jack and the 7th member of Coral Snake (what's his name)? Well, only 7 hours left!

I have a feeling he might be Michelle's husband or boyfriend, and there was a love triangle between he, Michelle, and Carrie. That would be weird, seeing as how Michelle practically asked Tony out earlier in the season.

I know... that was awesome. Great episode!

I think Kim will have to reflect eventually on how much disaster her idiotic decisions have wrought. It all started out good... concern for an abused daughter... now people are dead, injured, or amputees because she didn't do the right thing in the beginning. She finally did now though... for what good it does the people who are hurt.

Dope.

Anyway... Palmer's wife has been awol from scenes for a while... wonder if she'll enter back into this.

Yeah, t'was awesome! Next week looks to be even better!!! Looks like a whole new crop of bad guys! I can't wait! I liked the fact that Kim got off with all those charges. I wonder who the witness is the Gary killing his wife? How does Carrie fit into the picture? Is she a double agent like Nina? What about the Middle Eastern guy that's working with Jack? Will he turn out to be a traitor? Nathan, it's kind of cool that they took the show close to our home towns (Marrietta - 45 min. drive from me). I'm psyched about next week!

Haven't been here in a while.

I stand by my earlier prediction and still say Jack and Kate are going to get together.

What would be cool is if Carrie does end up being some sort of double agent and Tony totally lets her have it. Or better yet Michelle does. I doubt that, though.

BTW, does the fact that the characters never go to bathroom, bever eat, and never drink water bother anyone? It doesn't bother me much, but I still wonder how they can do that.

I'm on the west coast so I still have 1 hour and 10 minutes from the time I am typing this until it starts but I am guessing that the man that Jack is telling Kim to shoot is the guy she was working for. The cop told her that they were still looking for him and she is on her way back to his house to gather up her things so it just makes sense for it to be him.

As far as Sherrie Palmer is concerned...............you had to know that she would show up again before the season was complete. We know that she is involved with the tortured NSA Director due to their phone conversations earlier in the season but, outside of that, I have yet to determine how high her involvement goes.

Two weeks ago during the previews they said, "You'll never guess who the mastermind is", so does anyone have ideas? I have been trying to compile a short list of suspects in my mind over the last few weeks and have some possibilities but am curious as to what the rest of you think. Does anyone think that Bob Warner will pop back into the picture and turn out to really be involved, maybe as the mastermind? That could help to explain a little deeper into how Marie got involved.

I know. I was talking about this season in general. I'm not saying it wasn't any good. Season 2 is awesome. I said my above statement because I'm thinking in terms of the writers of the show. They certainly did things differently and, in some opinions, better. So, how are they going to make season 3 a big hit when season 2 seems so good?

Trilogist
05-14-2003, 06:39 PM
It has to be something different, otherwise they wouldn't do another season. My guess OBGates is right: they will end in a cliffhanger, and season three will be "The Day After: Another 24 Hours" They will test the limits of Jack's endurance. I mean who else can withstand 48 straight hours of non-stop action and suspense? Without food? And, as Whitey so observantly pointed out, without going to the bathroom??

I think George hopped his ass out of that plane, too.
George bit the bullet on that plane. The traitor is the VP and the cabinet and Mike Novik and Sherri Palmer and Roger Stanton. Basically, the whole Palmer administration!

Did anyone see The West Wing tonight? With war actions looming against a Middle Eastern nation after a terrorist action (kidnapping of Bartlett's daughter), the Prez questions his own ability to make proper decisions and calls upon himself the 25th amendment to remove himself and turn over power to his top rival the Speaker of the House. It simply struck me as uncanny after watching 24 last night where Palmer was removed from power via the 25th Amendment while war was looming, and tonight Bartlett persuaded his cabinet to enact the 25th upon him as war seemed imminent.

I taped 24 last night for a buddy of mine and decided to re-watch the preview for next week's finale after it concluded. Did anyone else notice that during one clip of the preview they show, what looks like, a computer screen with the same type of voice waves as those on Alex's computer and in the lower right of the monitor, on the screen, was a small photo/digital scan/something of Bob Warner?

Wow, I didn't know Tovor and Obi-Wan watched 24. Why did they wait so long to offer their opinions? Hmmm?

Tovor, that's interesting about the West Wing, maybe they did that because Martin Sheen refused to play the President authorizing a war or something like that. I don't watch the show, so I don't really know the whole scenario though.

OBG, I thought the last episode was a good one. What was it that you didn't like about it?

The episode just seemed like fluff, leading up to the finale. It did not get me more excited about the last show (not that I need more excitment!) I wasn't terribly surprised by anything. Jack having heart problems is obvious--he was tourtured, died, and was brought back to life like a couple of hours ago! The computer geek dying was obvious too. I just wanted some real huge stuff to happen. I just have this funny feeling that we are going to get the shaft with the finale. It's going to end with a cliff hanger leading into next season, rather than having closure! That will suck.

Good point, Kope. Most shows run for roughly 45 minutes, with 15 minutes of commercial time. So, all of 24's season would have about 6 hours of commercial time, leaving 18 hours of straight show time if all commercials are edited out. I think that's right. I am mathematically dyslexic and had to drop out of school in the 3rd grade to run the family farm, so I hope those figures are accurate. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I don't think Palmer died. But, here's an interesting thought: If next season will pick up the day after, will Jack Bauer still be the main character? Remember, he's being treated for his heart condition. I'd think that the hospital staff wouldn't let him out of his bed in a few hours. Hmmm... maybe it can be an obstacle itself, Jack sneaking out of the hopsital to help uncover the President's attackers.

Trilogist

No, I think this was Keifer Sutherland's farewell tour. I hope I'm wrong, but his character is effectively out. And too, think of the Los Angeles CTU. They've been operating nonstop for over 24 hours and the next shift has already taken over. I think this is turning over into new faces for next season. The star of the show may now be Dennis Haysbert as the President. He has become well known for that role. Which leads me to believe that the Prez is still alive and ticking. (pun intended)

One question I have is: where exactly is the President? Wasn't he fishing at the beginning and then moved to a military base for the duration of the day? Where was that exactly? And therefore what city was he in giving his speech when he received the handshake of death? I lost track of all this.

Ikrit
05-23-2003, 02:55 AM
Greatest. Show. Ever.

Trilogist, just as the bomb went off, Palmer was on Air Force One heading for Los Angeles. The city had already been declared safe from the bomb blast and that's where he was for the rest of the season.

And did anyone else find the finale somewhat strange? To me, it felt as if everything was wrapped up far too easily. And it seemed to take all of 5 minutes to set up a press conference and for the Palmer to have a speech ready and the area to be secured by the Secret Service. Unless the press conference was set up in advance for Prescott.

The Secret Service should really do their job better. It seemed too easy for any random assassin to be in that crowd, and could just shoot him with a gun and run.

The next season won't be about the day immediately following the one in season 2. Season 3 will probably be a week or so later, so all the main characters will have had time to rest up, and hopefully Jack's heart will have had time to recouperate.

I have a feeling President Palmer will be either dead or in a coma at the beginning of season 3, hopefully the latter. Dennis Haysbert is part of what makes 24 cool. It wouldn't be the same without him.

I'm not trying to insult your wife so please don't take it that way because I'm sure she picked up on it back then but this point regarding Kate and Jack was obvious from the moment that they met at Ali's house. It just made sense because she was the single one whose sister was getting married, and Marie had yelled at her about being envious that she (Marie) was getting married and not her (Kate) and Jack began the season as an absolute mess on the couch still coping with Teri's death from last season and yada yada yada...........you can see what I am getting at.

On to the topic at hand, I imagine that Marie will come back into it somehow. President Palmer probably will have survived because he's too popular a character in my opinion to kill off. Chappelle will be back most likely to shove his foot even further down his throat.

Prior to the last episode or two did anyone ever see the guy on the boat in any other episode from either season? I need to borrow my buddies first season DVD set so that I can watch it again because I have a feeling that next season will have another one or two tie-ins to season one.

Anyone think Nina will be back because, after all, Jack has to have a reason to legally blow her away eventually?

I agree about Palmer returning. Not only is he a popular character, he was central to the plot in both seasons, making him necessary for a third.

How do you top an assasination attempt, a nuclear bomb and a conspiracy to start a war? Here's my theory:

From the beginning, we have been getting a sense of individuals within the government operating their own secret agenda. Whatever this agenda is, they thought they had a presidential candidate whom they could control (Palmer). They were wrong. The assasination attempt in season one bears out their reaction to that realization. Somewhere along the way, Bauer became a threat to them as well.

In season 2, the plot thickens. Yet it was clear that the plot was to create an international crisis and also a presidential scandal.

My theory is that season 3 will be about the threat on America itself. I mean democracy and freedom. I mean the Constitution. Sure it sounds funny, but that's how you top the first 2 seasons. The rise of the "shadow government." Perhaps their planning another international crisis, a national emergency, but the agenda is to seize control of the government and shred our Bill of Rights. I think if you look back at both seasons, you will see that hinted at. I'm betting that's what's going to happen.

Anyway that's my analysis ... what do you think?

I thought it would be ironic that all the crazy conspiracy theorists would end up being right. That a national emergency would give the government the impetus to suspend all rights, declare martial law, and otherwise take total control of everyone and everything. That guy from season 2, the one with the bomb shelter, might make an appearance again! He'll be saying "I told you so, Kim! You should have believed me!"

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>"24" Suffers Casualties

by Lia Haberman
Jun 19, 2003, 1:50 PM PT

Actresses beware: Being asked to audition as Jack Bauer's love interest on 24 is TV's kiss of death.

For the second season in a row Kiefer Sutherland's leading lady will apparently be shown the door. Also likely joining Sarah Wynter, who played Kate Warner, on the unemployment line will be Penny Johnson Jerald, who played Sherry Palmer, ex-wife of the show's president. The two are not scheduled to return as series regulars for the third season after Fox declined to renew the actresses' contracts this week, E! Online's TV maven Kristin reports, citing sources close to the production.

(The real kicker: no news of Elisha Cuthbert's perennially imperiled character Kim Bauer getting the boot.)

Fox refused to confirm the shake-up "to maintain story line secrecy" but released a statement that offered a glimmer of hope for the actresses. "Whether or not an actor's option as a series regular is picked up doesn't necessarily determine future participation in the series--Xander Berkeley [CTU's George Mason] was a series regular but was killed off in episode 15," the network notes. "Reiko Aylesworth [CTU's Michelle Dessler] was never a series regular last year yet appeared in all 24 episodes of the show."

Also up in the air, the status of TV prez Dennis Haysbert, who appeared to be critically wounded by a biological assassination attempt at the close of the second season.

According to boob-tube guru Kristin, the actor pleaded ignorant when asked about his future during a panel discussion sponsored by Back Stage West at the Pacific Design Center in L.A. "Each script is like getting a report card: 'Did I pass? Did I pass?' That's the beauty of playing a character on 24. You just never know. My character was stabbed in the back so much this season I felt like a pincushion!"

Doing a lot of the stabbing was Haysbert's scheming onscreen wife Sherry, who wasn't expected to last past the first season. However, the former first lady managed to engineer a comeback even after she and the prez had separated, but it seems her underhanded ways have finally caught up to her.

Another matter of debate is the show's timeline. Conflicting reports suggest the third season will either start just a few hours after the second season left off (after the attack on Palmer) or not until some time in the future. Fox is maintaining a CTU-like silence on the upcoming plot points.

The only certainty is counterterrorist agent Sutherland, "who is slated to return as a series regular," said the statement from Fox.

Viewers were shocked at the close of the first season when producers killed off Jack Bauer's wife, Teri (played by Leslie Hope), after a jam-packed day that saw her kidnapped and raped, shocked into amnesia, and believing her daughter had been killed in a fiery explosion.

Enter Wynter's character Kate, whose evil sister Marie (played by Laura Harris) put the blonde babe squarely in the middle of another terrorist plot and brought her in contact with Sutherland. But the only action those two saw was strictly in the line of duty. Maybe producers should consider pairing Bauer with man's best friend, because this G-man just doesn't have time to date, what with a nuclear bomb to detonate, a president to save and a war to stop.

It's that time of year when waiters dust off their head shots for the casting agents busy staffing TV series for the upcoming TV season. The 2003-04 season is no different, with several newbies--as well as some veteran actors--landing some plum gigs on Emmy-winning series The West Wing and 24.

At least four thesps have joined Fox's round-the-clock thriller 24, where sleep is a foreign concept.

DB Woodside, Agnes Bruckner and newcomers James Badge Dale and Zachary Quinto will make their debuts as recurring characters in the third season of 24 this fall.

The show, which received 10 Emmy nominations last week, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for star Kiefer Sutherland, kicks off with a commercial-free episode October 28.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Possible spoiler alert: Woodside has been cast to play the President's new chief of staff, according to the Hollywood Reporter. However, Fox refused to confirm Tuesday if the President in question was actor Dennis Haysbert whose character, President Palmer, was in critical condition after being the target of a biological attack at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, Bruckner's character reportedly runs into trouble when her boyfriend gets involved in drug trafficking, but according to a source close to production, the blonde's role is a small one. And so, despite reports that cast members Sarah Wynter and Penny Johnson Jerald are on their way out, it's unlikely Bruckner is meant as a replacement to either of these leading ladies.

As for Badge Dale, he'll play a young CTU agent named Chase Exen who's partnered with Jack Bauer. No word on what role Quinto will play.

Audiences might remember Woodside as Principal Robin Wood from last season on UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His credits also include ABC's Murder One, NBC's miniseries The Temptations and the feature Romeo Must Die.

Bruckner launched her career on CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful before going on to costar in the feature Murder by Numbers. Next, she'll be seen in Risk and Stateside
