Robert A. Heinlein's book Starship Troopers is NOT a kids book.

Kids wouldn't get the premise. The book isn't about the war at all, it's takes place mostly in the Officers School.

The Book and the Movie are totally different.

Points-

Rico is Philipino.
Dizzy is a Guy, and did not have 'fun' with Rico...he does die though.
Ace is a lot older.
Rico's father did not die. His mother did as she was in Buenos Aires (errr....) when the attack happened.
The bugs weren't like they are in the movie, they have starships and all that.
Carmen, at the end, shaves her head.
Neil Patrick Harris' character dies on a research station on Pluto.
No Females were in the Mobile Infantry.
Rico joined the military for Carmen (at first).
Rico's father winds up being Rico's First Shirt in Rico's Roughnecks.
I could go on....

Suffice to say a direct translation of the book would have been boring for most people. Personally I would have loved it!

As for sucky movies-

There's only 2 movies I've ever walked out of, the first I stated above.

The other: Very Bad Things, with Christian Slater. After Kobe gets her head impaled the movie went down hill very very fast.

Others: 3000 Miles to Graceland. Decent action and gunplay, but...really...
