Well since it isn't the only book in The Chronicles of Narnia series it's a possibility, but I don't know how likely, might depend on how it does in theaters though the other books aren't nearly as popular as the lion, the witch and the wardrobe.

My brother saw it and said that it doesn't resemble the epic that is LOTR as much as you might think from seeing the trailers. That was one of my concerns before. He said they pulled everything off wonderfully.

I'm wondering, if they plan on continuing with the other books, if they'll release them in the order the books were released. Originally, each book was a story in its own, somewhere along the Narnia timeline. But recent boxed set releases have put the books in chronological order, taking away some of the mystery. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is the second book chronologically.

I'm assuming, since they started with that book, that they'll be following the original sequence. Here's hoping.

An incredible movie! To see both ILM and WETA work together on such an awesome project was just simply incredible. And once again Harry Gregson-Williams proves a Master Composer.
I was expecting the music to be a little more like The Lord of the Rings, but once it got into it and I realized that Harry wanted to do something new and unique, I loved it.

I couldn't say how close it is to the book because I have not read it since I was little. The only Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe material I really remember is the PBS Television version that I watched also when I was little. Yet because it was visual, I remember it better than the book.

Liam Neeson did a great job as Aslan. Although I was a little stunned at the sound of Rupert Everett's voice as the fox, I got used to it after a while. All the children did excellent jobs as Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. And, although she totally freaked me out, Tilda Swinton did a fabulous as the White Witch. And that swordfight between her and Peter was awesome.

I give it a 10 out of 10, 100% of 100%, 100 thumbs up!
Go see the movie!

Saw this on Friday. It's a good to fair film at best. It's funny but I felt that the film needed another 45 minutes to an hour to fix alot of the problems I had with it.

Also, the kids in the film were spotty at best but considering that this was their first film, I'll let it pass. The problem with the film is that it's rushed, the character development is not nearly as much as it needs to be and the film has no charm whatsoever. When the first Harry Potter film was released, as bland as Columbus directed the film, there was a charm and magic to it. Plus, you feel for the three leads as soon as you got to Hogwarts. Here, none of that happened whatsoever.

The visual effects range from great to shoddy. And considering that you had seven visual effects houses working on this film, I can see why. The range in quality over seven effects houses show.

In the end, a kids film but not a great one. Just a decent one to see on a Saturday afternoon.

I thought the film started slow enough to get into the characters, etc. and then really picked up nicely.

I thought that this was an interseting article!

Disney's 'Narnia': Christ Need Not Apply

Disney's holiday season release of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" is set for this weekend -- and some Christians are worried the media giant is more intent on cashing in on the faithful, rather than sharing the film's Christian message.

The Disney backed film is based on one of C.S. Lewis' "Narnia" books. Lewis was a noted Christian apologist, and his Narnia books have been viewed as religious allegory about the life of Christ.

While Disney clearly hopes to tap into the same audience that made Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" a huge box office hit, the same people behind the firm version of "Narnia" are vocal in downplaying its supposed links to Christianity.

"Faith is in the eye of the beholder," declared one of the movie's actresses, Tilda Swinton, who said Lewis' original book is more "spiritual" than religious.

"You can make a religious allegory out of anything if that's what you're interested in," she told BBC News.

The $150 million film, made by Walden Media and distributed by Disney, is the story of a struggle between good and evil in the snowy kingdom of Narnia. Four English siblings enter the enchanted land and discover talking animals who await the return of the lion king, Aslan. The inhabitants believe he will free them from the tyranny of Jadis, the White Witch.

Aslan sacrifices himself to save the life of a human boy, or "Son of Adam." He later rises from the dead to lead his troops in a battle against the witch's forces.

But the film's director, Andrew Adamson, also has pooh-poohed the idea that the allegory reveals Christ's resurrection, saying that concept is a common theme in the fantasy genre.

"The religious aspect is something the press is more interested in than the world at large," he told the BBC.

Said "Narnia's" producer, Mark Johnson: "When I read the book as a child, I accepted it as a pure adventure story. It never occurred to me Aslan was anything more than a great lion" rather than a Christ figure.

"Christian themes were very important to C.S. Lewis and imbued everything he did, but he himself denied any religious implications."

Despite those comments from the movie's creators, the film has already received pledges of support from evangelical groups in the United States, many of whom say Lewis - who wrote seven books in the "Narnia" series - did create the story as an allegory about the life of Jesus.

Reportedly, elementary schoolchildren and teenagers in Bible study groups are booking theaters to see the PG-rated movie, which opens Friday.

"We believe that God will speak the gospel of Jesus Christ through this film," said Lon Allison, director of Illinois' Billy Graham Center.

But a Hollywood insider who has dealt with Disney's marketing executives told NewsMax that the media giant has had great apprehension promoting the film to Christian groups and has done so only in a low-key manner.

"Disney is loathing the idea that the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or a preacher like Jerry Falwell will actively promote the film. They want the Christian community's money, but not their viewpoint," the source said.

Last year, Hollywood witnessed the Christian zeal for Gibson's "Passion" movie, which has grossed anywhere from $400 million to more than $600 million worldwide, depending on the source.

The producers of "Narnia" have generated advance buzz among Christians by showing previews to Christian leaders, preachers and evangelical organization, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

USA Today asked: "Is the world created by C.S. Lewis a rip-roaring piece of fantasy - or a fairy tale suffused with Christian imagery?

"The answer is both, and that raises a related question: Can Disney succeed by selling the movie on two tracks - as a sort of cross between ?The Lord of the Rings' and ?The Passion of the Christ'? If so, ?Narnia' figures to be a holiday blockbuster."

Said producer Johnson: "We're not selling the movie to any particular group. With a movie this size, we're trying to sell it to everybody."
Put another way, Disney would like to sell "Narnia" minus Christ - but still have Christians pay the bill.

I saw it yesterday. I've never read the books, and I wasn't extremely anticipating the film either, but it was pretty good. It was nowhere near as good as Lord of the Rings or the last two Potter films, for that matter. But that's not saying, I didn't enjoy it. I thought it was more of a kid-friendly LOTR, especially with the talking animals (I thought the casting choice for that wolf was laughable).

I didn't really like Tilda Swinton as the White Witch, and her evil regime never felt as threatening as it was implied. I also think they should have spent more time developing Aslan, solely to make his death and "resurrection" more emotionally resonant. I felt bad for him, but really only because he was an animal and he's supposedly an allegorical Christ.

The end battle was cool and I was happy when that extremely annoying Indian Oompa-Loompa was killed. He was pathetically irritating.

Anyway, it was a pretty good movie.

I saw it over the weekend and thought it was a fair kids movie. I was hoping for something a little less watered down but with a PG rating you can't expect much excitement and suspense. I also felt it had some production issues...there were some pretty bad blue screen shots and some consistency problems. Not quite on the bullseye for me. I would recommend renting it.

I saw it last week at the Royal Premier here in london. Fair movie, wonderful party afterwards.

The film is ok, better than I was expecting. The dialogue was rather "jolly hockysticks" for my taste lifted straight from the rather old fashioned and simple original book. I thought that the girl who played Lucy was fantastic, she made the movie. The other kids were ok, but nothing special.

I thought that for a film they should have developed the White Witch a bit more. Bit of a waste of a good actress. Should have given her a bit more of a motive (which is never touched upon at all) and a few more scenes.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
One Down, Six to Go The next installment might be Prince Caspian, the fourth book, in which the Pevensie kids are summoned back to Narnia 1,000 years later by the Prince's magic horn. Look for it in theaters in December 2007. How do I know this? An omniscient CGI lion told me.

Actually, from what I've heard, their will two sequels. The actors from this one have signed on for the first three movies (the only three with the Pevensie kids in them)

Then after that, there really is nothing to stop them from making the entire 7 books series into movies, because you have different characters throughout.

It's a pretty good bet that if they continue to be successful they will adapt the entire series. And I thought the kids were only in the first two books, or at least they only appeared as children in the first two, but I am not that familiar with the series.

kopernikuz

It's second in publication order, 4th in chronological, however... The Magician's Nephew is kind of a prequel that was written well after TLWATW and doesn't have any of the Pevensie children... it's techincally the first book, but doesn't tell any of the story of the main Narnia flow. It's outside the storyline, if you will. The other book they skipped is The Horse and His Boy, which also is outside the central character's storyline and is just another story set in Narnia, so there's really no reason to go to it in the movie order. Consider it like The Silmarillion or The Hobbit in Tolkein's world... they fit the whole picture, but aren't steps in the main story of the LOTR trilogy.

The films are following what a great many of the readers follow, which is the main story.

To follow the main story you would read TLWATW first, Caspian second, then Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

edit: heh. had to leave out the second "The" in my abbreviation of the first book because it made a bad word in the middle and was censored, LOL.

Um... there are definitely darker elements, the battles a bit more brutal yet no spewing blood or anything. I took my 10, 13 and 14yo and didn't feel like they saw anything too bad. But it is definitely more "violent" than the first. I put the "violent" in quotes because there's really little blood, even though there is a lot of violent stuff happening, know what I mean? And there's one or two scenes that might be pretty frightening to younger kids.

That's always a tough call... because everyone has different standards of "kid friendly" based on their own kids... I would not have a problem showing it to my kids, even my 6yo... but he's pretty tough to frighten and has seen the Jurassic Park movies, so this is not worse, IMO.

Just came back from taking my son and his friend to Prince Caspian!

We all loved it! It's also better than the first one. Much more action!

True but I loved Lucy and Edmond's Reactions.

You think we'll see Warwick Davis play something else in Dawn Treader? I've never seen him play such a dark character before, and I thought he did a really good job.

it's possible (probable) that they won't make anymore after voyage of the dawn treader depending on how many people go see the next one. luckily for me, i believe that's the last one ben barnes (aka PRINCE HOTNESS) will be in. lolz.

In my opinion it all depends on marketing, which the last one suffered poorly from. These are good Christmas movies, keep it at that.

Having just seen the second movie and liking it, I realized I remember nothing of the future Narnia stuff that was filmed by BBC ages ago (could have sworn part 2 was about them sailing around Narnia....), so I just added an order for all the Narnia books at Amazon.com

So I've begun my journey into the Narnia universe.

Against all advice I got from friends who had read the series, I decided to go by publication date, and not by chronological order (and after starting I'm 100% sure I made the right decision).

I must say I was surprised at how light these books were, I finished Lion, Witch... in 3 days, and now (one week and 2 days after starting) am about halfway through the Dawn Threader (just been to the Darkness), loving everything so far.

However it has changed my views on the two movies, one for the better, one for the worse.

The first one, in hindsight I must say that this might be the best book-to-movie-adaptation I've ever seen. When reading the first one it felt like almost reading the movie script, with the exception of the war in the beginning and the Professor missing from the movie. Definitely made me think about the movie in a new way, amazing done.

Now, Prince Caspian, I enjoyed the movie, much like the first one. However where the first one was almost identical to the book, this was just way off. The romantic subplot, then entire fight at the castle, the way the kids met Caspian, and probably more that I don't remember right now. And having recently finished the book, I think the move would have been better if it stuck more to the book, I don't mind them spicing up the fight at Aslan's How or showing some backstory of the Telmarin traitors (those who killed the false King), but making up all this other things just seemed unnecessary.

Now I've gotten a huge urge to hunt down the old BBC series I loved as a kid, reading the Dawn Threader sure makes memories come back (the first two BBC series' have kinda been washed out by the two new movies), wonder if I will be able to get hold of them.

Well I know where I would be able to get the BBC series, I just don't think I would liek to invest that much money into it.

I enjoyed watching Prince Caspian. I think it's a great adaptation, because unlike LWW, it's a much more difficult story to adapt from book to screen. LWW had a chronological series of events, whereas the PC novel had a more complex plot - jumping from the Pevensie kids getting back into Narnia to the narration of Prince Caspian. PC is my favourite of Lewis's series, but it would have been dreadful IMO if adapted almost identically to the big screen. The story of Prince Caspian is a LOT more interesting than Peter and siblings finding out that they're back in Cair Paravel etc etc, and so the only way for Adamson to do it was to intertwine the stories, give both sets of main characters (Peter and co on the one hand, Caspian and his army on the other) equal justice.

Just my two cents.

And gosh those old BBC adaptations - I remember watching that when I was a kid. God they were awful!

I'm surprised at this. Dawn Treader is the best of the series and would probably make the most money of all the films.

As long as it gets made I'm happy but I wish Disney was still involved.

^I do too, and I agree with some of the analysis that Caspian was possibly released at the wrong time.

Maybe they should have waited for this Christmas! Not too many good choices this season, IMO!

I definitely agree about it being a Christmas release, I was surprised when they announced it as a May release. Not the smartest of moves but then again, Caspian as a story was the weakest, imo.

Don't forget though... Harry Potter was SUPPOSED to be released this season and got bumped. Had Caspian been scheduled for this holiday as well, it would've gotten some steep competition... as it stands, Potter got rescheduled... no real competition. Had they known early enough that Potter was going to wait, maybe they'd have moved Caspian.
