Have just decided to go into collecting vintage carded figures to go with my full set of loose figures. I'm not going to be stiffed by buying AFA figures but I know there are a lot of fakes out there being passed off as the real deal especially on e-bay. HOw can I make sure that what I get is legit???

I'm in the opposite, yet much easier boat - having completed my vintage carded collection, I'm going into loose. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

It's unfortunately not easy, especially if the photos don't show it or the seller isn't up front. I've ran into several re-carded figures that looked as good as new in the pictures, too, so you really have to use your instincts.

Vintage figures do tend to have a distinctive 'cross-thatch' (that xxxxxx in the glue) pattern with the glue seal, and there can often be a difference in the thickness of the actual bubble (re-carded bubbles are not usually as thick or sturdy).

Ask tons of questions - ask for tons of pictures. It's your right as a buyer, so don't feel bad about it. The seller's feedback and reputation in the community is another good indicator.

Good luck - I'd bet most of us would be happy to help you judge pics, as well.

I received a Lando Skiff through the post and I was a bit suspicious as it had the emperor offer on it front and back but neither was a sticker... it was actually part of the card design itself. All the ither ROTJ cards I have have the offers as stickers.

I don't think I've ever seen that, either. I don't run around tracking package variations or anything, but that sounds a bit dodgy.

Is it US packaging?

you can always ask the seller. check the sellers feedback. do some research using the internet. compare items from other auctions.
